Hair care is an overall term for parts of hygiene and cosmetology involving the hair on the human head. Care of the hair and the scalp skin are sometimes considered separate, but are often intertwined because hair grows from underneath the skin. Shampoo is a common hair care product used for the removal of oils, dirt, skin particles, dandruff, environmental pollutants and other contaminant particles that gradually build up in hair. The goal is to remove the unwanted build-up without stripping out so much as to make hair unmanageable. Hair conditioner is a hair care product that alters the texture and appearance of human hair. Hair coloring products generally fall into four categories: temporary, semi permanent, deposit only/demi, and permanent. All these hair color products, except for temporary color, suggest a patch test before application to determine if the client is allergic to the product. "Hair lightening," referred to as "bleaching" or "decolorizing," is a chemical process involving the diffusion of the natural color pigment or artificial color from the hair. This process is central to both permanent hair color and hair lighteners. Hair gel is a hairstyling product that is used to stiffen hair into a particular hairstyle.
