| There are many different styles and types of yoga being taught and practiced today. Most of the styles of yoga are based on physical postures (called poses). The types of yoga are as stated below Hatha: A very generic form of yoga that encompasses many of the physical types. The exercises in the Hatha style are slow paced, gentle and are an introduction to the basic forms. Vinyasa: Vinyasa is a generic term used to describe many different types of classes. This means a breath synchronized movement which is more vigorous based on the performance of a series of poses. Ashtanga & Power Yoga: In Sanskrit, ashtanga means `eight' limbs. Power Yoga is a fast paced, intense style of yoga with a series of poses always performed in the same order. Iyengar: This style is mostly concerned with bodily alignment where a body is positioned in a particular way for maximum benefits. |
