We are living in the new millennium just about everything is possible these days, including exterminating household pests such as the bed bugs and dust mites. Most times, modern household pesticides do the job just fine, but even these need to be used with some caution as those folks prone to allergies could find that don't react well to some of the chemicals in these products. The older treatments that folks used to use were either not very effective or they were out right dangerous. One old-time remedy was to treat infested mattresses with gasoline. A pesticide is a substance or mixture of substances used for preventing, controlling, or lessening the damage caused by a pest. A pesticide may be a chemical substance, biological agent, antimicrobial, disinfectant or device used against any pest. Pests include insects, plant pathogens, weeds, mollusks, birds, mammals, fish, nematodes and microbes that compete with humans for food, destroy property, spread or are a vector for disease or cause a nuisance.
